From the Regional Druid
Greetings to the druids of the Northwest! Happy Summer to you all! I hope that everyone is finding a way to stay relatively cool in this season – or perhaps you’re in one of the areas that hasn’t gotten hot yet and are enjoying the weather.
Happy Belated Father’s Day to all the men out there who have had children, or who have helped to raise children! The Wild Hunt wrote an interesting article on Fathers and interviewed our own Rev. Sean Harbaugh for it.
Whatever the weather where you are, Summer is a time for getting together with folks, and it always makes me think of Hospitality. Hospitality is one of our virtues, and it’s one of the most important for me. It’s the only virtue that you cannot express alone. By its very nature, Hospitality requires at least one other person.
When I was growing up, I always interpreted Hospitality to mean that I would invite people over to my house and offer them food, drink, and company. Now, however, I believe that it’s so much more than that. My current understanding, or interpretation, of Hospitality is about relationship. It’s about the relationships that we have with other people in our community, in our apartment buildings, and on the bus or train as we ride to work. It’s about how we treat each other every day.
In the vein of “Why not Excellence?” I’d like to quote Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure:
Blessings of the Kindreds to you and yours,
